Our schools

The Trust has been formed with the following schools; Harrogate Grammar School, Oatlands Junior School, Western Primary School, Rossett Acre Primary School, Crawshaw Academy and Coppice Valley Primary School who have worked closely together for many years and where a significant proportion of pupils from the primary schools will go on to Harrogate Grammar School. The membership is not however linked to admissions in any way and other partners from the locality are welcome to put themselves forward – primary, secondary or special – as possible members of our MAT. As Harrogate has a very important rural dimension, we value the fact that our ‘locality’ extends to cover the villages and communities around the town. Experience nationally indicates that for a Trust to be able to offer the services and quality of provision expected by schools,  it needs to be of a significant size but still not be too large as to become unwieldy and allow individual schools and their needs to become lost. We expect our MAT to grow over the next few years but this will depend on the size and nature of the schools that join; we do not want to grow too big or too quickly.

Before any school joins the Trust a process of ‘due diligence’ will be carried out; this will look at:

  • Commitment to the values and principles of the Trust
  • Performance and standards over the last 3 years
  • Capacity for improvement
  • Financial position
  • Buildings and facilities audit

It is vitally important that as the Trust takes responsibility for a school it knows what it is taking on as this affects the other partners in the Trust.
