Red Kite Olympics
In June, we held our first Red Kite Olympics, where teams of Year 5 and 6 pupils from across our 10 Trust primary schools came together to take part in a fun event, competing in a number of sporting activities. The idea was generated by representatives from our Youth Board who were keen to bring our schools together for fun activities. The event was hosted by Harrogate Grammar School and organised by Director of Sport, Mr Tom Ryder, and the Harrogate Grammar school PE department, with help from pupil Sports Leaders. There was some good natured but determined competition between the teams and at the end of the day it was Oatlands Junior School who took away the trophy.
Red Kite Art Exhibition
In June, at a special open evening event, we launched our first Art Exhibition, featuring artwork created by pupils from Oatlands Junior School that will remain in the Trust Gallery until January 2025, when another school in our Trust will have to opportunity to showcase their work. The open event was a huge success as we welcomed children, families, colleagues, and trustees to view the artwork, meet the artists and enjoy the buzzing atmosphere. The children were very excited and proud to talk about their work, their inspiration and process.
HGS Orchestra Performance
The Junior Orchestra and String Ensemble at Harrogate Grammar School visited Rossett Acre Primary School to perform an afternoon concert. The students were very excited to share their enthusiasm for playing string, woodwind, brass and percussion instruments and to show the younger children how much fun it can be to play with others in music groups. The concert involved six pieces of music from different styles including The Beatles, Snow Patrol and classical music. There was also the opportunity for our primary school pupils to see and listen to how you play different instruments.
They were then all invited to join in conducting the final piece and they were excellent at keeping time! It was a highly enjoyable afternoon for all involved working together as two schools in the trust and many of the younger students said that it had inspired them to consider starting to learn an instrument which was fantastic.
Graduation Celebrations
We have had a wonderful time celebrating the achievements of our young people as Year 11 completed their GCSEs and our Year 13 students leave us for the next exciting chapter of their lives. The all got to dress up in their finery and attend their respective Leavers Balls. What a lovely looking bunch they are too! Congratulations to them all, they have worked hard and we are incredibly proud of the young people they have become.
