Wellbeing Across Our Trust

At Red Kite Learning Trust, wellbeing is more than a priority, it’s a core value that underpins everything we do. Across our schools, we are creating environments where pupils, staff, and families feel supported, valued, and able to thrive. This page highlights just some of the ways we’re promoting positive mental health, fostering a strong sense of belonging, and embedding wellbeing into daily school life.

Wellbeing at the Heart of Oatlands Junior School

OJS HubAt Oatlands Junior School, pupil wellbeing is a top priority. Alongside academic progress, the school places a strong focus on nurturing the whole child, building resilience, independence, self-esteem and social skills to prepare pupils for life beyond the classroom. A key part of this support is the OJS Hub, a safe and welcoming space where pupils can work individually or in small groups with Learning Mentor Tricia Morales. The Hub also offers support to parents and carers, covering everything from friendship issues and anxiety to bereavement, behaviour and secondary school transitions.

The OJS Hub reflects the school’s deep commitment to creating a caring, inclusive environment where every child can thrive.

Meadowfield Primary Creates Sensory Daisy Garden with Support from Red Kite FoundationIMG_6449

Meadowfield Primary School has developed a vibrant new sensory space, the Daisy Garden, thanks in part to funding from the Red Kite Foundation. Over the past year, the school’s Green Team worked closely with the Site Team to design and build this special garden, created with a focus on supporting their SEN pupils. However, the Daisy Garden is open to all pupils and staff as a calming space to relax and rebalance before returning to class.

The garden features a variety of engaging elements including a sound wall, rockery with plants and herbs, mud kitchen, barefoot path, art and sculptures, a water wall, plus sand and wet play areas—all with many hidden treasures to explore. Proudly, nearly everything in the Daisy Garden has been donated, recycled, or upcycled, reflecting the school’s commitment to sustainability.

Meadowfield Pupils Embrace 'Trying Something New' for Health and Wellbeing Week

Meadowfield - Try Something NewThis year’s Health and Wellbeing Week at Meadowfield Primary School centred around the theme 'Trying Something New', with the whole school taking part in exciting and varied activities across five themed days, from Mindful Monday to Tech-Free Friday. Pupils explored everything from beatboxing and DJ-ing with Hip-Hop Phil, to skateboarding lessons with LS10 and even opera singing! On Ready Steady Cook Day, everyone sampled new foods, topped off with a special afternoon tea lunch. It was a joyful week of discovery, creativity and confidence-building, showing just how powerful trying something new can be.

New Bike and Scooter Shed Promotes Active Travel at Colton Primary School

Colton Primary School is proud to unveil a brand new bike and scooter shed, designed to encourage pupils and families to travel to school in a healthier and more sustainable way. The new facility was made possible thanks to Government funding from the Department for Transport’s Active Travel Fund, which supports local authorities in promoting greener modes of transport. This project was prioritised by Leeds City Council and endorsed by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, helping to create a safer and more accessible space for active travel at our school.
