Park Run Take Over
On a crisp and misty Saturday morning in February, the tranquil Woodhouse Moor transformed into a bustling hub of energy, hosting a gathering of over 750 participants and volunteers for the Red Kite Teacher Training Parkrun Takeover.
With registrations from across the Red Kite Teacher Training partnership and beyond, the event served as a fabulous occasion for the Red Kite team to celebrate the teaching profession.
Volunteers and participants were rewarded with a Red Kite bobble hat.
Supporting Children and Families
Our Cluster Team works with Trust schools and partners to provide a comprehensive package of targeted support for local children, young people and families experiencing social, emotional and/ or behavioural difficulties.
This year our Leeds Cluster Team have received 180 referrals and have supported over 200 children, young people and families via 1:1 targeted support. They have delivered two parent support groups, supporting parents and carers of children diagnosed with/or who are currently being assessed for autism. They have distributed almost £3000 worth of Asda vouchers to support vulnerable families with the cost of living crisis, and they have raised an additional £10,500 via various fundraising activity, which will go back into supporting local children and families. Our Harrogate Cluster Team have received 37 referrals for counselling.
50th Birthday Celebrations
This year saw Rossett School celebrate its 50th anniversary. Special events were held to mark the schools long and successful past, with a retro day in school where our current students heard about the history of the school from the previous Headteachers. As we carried the celebrations into the evening, we were joined by Rossett alumni with former staff and students reminiscing about their time at school.
The Sound of Music
In July, members of the Templenewsam Halton Primary School Choir visited Colton Lodges to sing to the residents. They sang some classics from The Sound of Music as well as some more modern songs. The staff and residents commented on the children’s wonderful singing and how lovely it had been to share their morning with them. Promises have been made to return soon and the choir are already hard at work practicing some more songs from across the decades. This was the second time this year that the residents were invited to hear the children at school as they had already visited at Christmas to see the Y3 and 4 Christmas show. As the year has gone on the choir has gone from strength to strength thanks to the efforts of Mrs Mathewson and our resident pianist Miss Goddard. They started small with concerts in school before performing to the public at Lidl at Christmas before visiting Colton Lodge this Summer. Their sights are set on Young Voices at Sheffield Arena next year!
Community Hub
Coppice Valley Primary School has utilised grant funds to establish a Community Hub, which offers Family Toolkits (tote bags filled with family games, mental health resources, and various activities), pre-loved school uniforms, signposting to services, and a pantry. The school has also launched a pantry with a Friday Night Curry Club, providing families with curry ingredients and a recipe created by the children.
‘Halton in Bloom’
Earlier in the term, 'Halton in Bloom' got in touch with the Arts Council at Temple Learning Academy. They had seen students’ artwork on the school Facebook page and were so impressed they invited students to do some artwork to go on one of the large electric advertising boxes locally. This says, 'Halton in Bloom', has a floral/plant theme to it, the school logo, and an anti-littering message. Our students loved painting the design for the local community and also have contacted the 'Burley Banksy' who is keen to get involved also!
Litter Picking
The Green Team at Meadowfield Primary School, together with Mrs Hicks (one of our amazing Parent Governors) has been out and about, within our community, collecting rubbish. Believe it or not, litter picking is one of our Green Team's favourite activities - just look at their huge smiles on their photos. Most bizarre items collected include a beautiful pink woolly hat and a power rangers toy - both in surprisingly good condition!
Visit from a Lioness Legend
Rossett School Alumni and Lioness legend, Rachel Daly, went back to school in October, to unveil a 3G pitch named in her honour. The pupils and staff at Rossett School were so excited to meet her, cheering her through the school in a guard of honour.
The Rossett Girls Football team were thrilled to spend some time with her. Welcoming Rachel back to our school, where her career began, was of great inspiration to all and a reminder that with commitment, responsibility, and resilience there is no ceiling on success.
