Western Primary School led the way with the introduction of 1:1 iPads to enhance the teaching and learning experience for teachers and children, inspiring pupils to be curious, collaborative, and ambitious learners. Across our Trust, teachers and children are using ipads to enhance teaching and learning.

An Apple Distinguish School

Western Primary School is also an Apple Distinguished School and provides support and guidance to other schools, within our Trust and beyond. In the past 18 months Western Primary School has hosted visitors from Templenewsam Halton Primary school, Harrogate Grammar School, St Bede’s Academy, the Yorkshire Causeway Trust, the Showbie development team and members of our Trust’s Central Team to describe to offer advice. Western Primary has recently applied to become a Regional Training Centre for Apple and hope to be able to offer more bespoke support in the months and years ahead.

Girls using ipads

"Teaching from the iPad has enabled me to work amongst the students, no longer with my back to them as I write on the whiteboard. Instead, I will use a simple blank document on Showbie to make and project my notes, although many other apps like OneNote would also work well for this. Notes that were once written and then lost on the whiteboard can be made on the iPad, saved, and shared with students, especially of use to students who might have missed a lesson or would benefit from seeing your notes up-close on their own device. Answers to problems students are working on can be modelled with ease sitting next to students but also viewed by the class at the same time. In addition, I have found the iPad can open opportunities to innovate. I am keen to explore the use of 3D models which students can interact with, hopefully leading to better understanding and recall of the theory these are linked to."
