Red Kite Alliance hosts Alex Quigley for a full day conference

Posted 25th March 2022

Red Kite Alliance was delighted to welcome Alex Quigley for a full day’s conference yesterday, with over 70 primary and secondary colleagues attending.

At this free event, which was exclusively for Red Kite Alliance schools, Alex was addressing attendees how to ‘Close the Reading Gap’.

It was a fabulous day of talking about reading and its importance for learning and how we can help our young people to become skilled and fluent readers.

Alex explored the key challenge of supporting every child so that they become fluent, skilled readers. He was drawing upon a wealth of research evidence and real examples to define the ‘reading gap’, before offering a range of practical strategies to close the gap. The sessions covered practical approaches to developing vocabulary, curriculum development, reading strategically and knowledgeably, along with assessing reading with success.

During the event, Alex called upon his best-selling books ‘Closing the Reading Gap’ and ‘Closing the Vocabulary Gap’ to offer a session to support school leaders and teachers so that their pupils can thrive.

These were the informative sessions our colleagues attended.

  • Session 1:    What is the reading gap?
  • Session 2:    Practical strategies to close the gap
  • Session 3:    Planning to close the gap

It was a truly inspiring and stimulating day for all.
