Red Kite Learning Trust marks Mental Health First Aider Day

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) England has launched the first ever National Mental Health First Aider (MHFAider) Day, recognising people across workplaces and communities who make mental health support more visible and accessible.
At Red Kite Learning Trust, wellbeing is a central part of our culture. We want every colleague to feel supported, listened to and valued — and to know that mental health is just as important as physical health.
As part of this commitment, the Trust has built a growing network of MHFAiders across all our schools. These colleagues volunteer their time to promote positive wellbeing, offer peer-to-peer support and help create open, caring spaces for conversations about mental health.
“Our MHFAiders make a real difference every day,” said Ria Tomlinson, Director of HR. “Their purpose is to ensure they are here to support you whenever you may need it and remind us that there are times when we all may need support at some point in our lives. Their role helps us to promote wellbeing and keeping it as a core value at the centre of our Trust culture."
Jen Berry, who leads MHFA training within the Trust, added: “MHFAiders are there to spot the signs and reach out to someone who may be experiencing challenges with their mental health. We offer a supportive conversation and listen with empathy, making mental health support more visible, valued and accessible. Our aim is to create a healthier and happier workplace.”
The Trust’s MHFAiders are part of a wider wellbeing strategy that empowers staff, strengthens support networks and ensures help is always there when it’s needed.
This work forms an important part of our People Strategy, reflecting our ongoing commitment to promote wellbeing, invest in our people and build a culture where everyone feels supported to do their best.
