This month, 136 schools across the UK and internationally were awarded the PSQM, which celebrates schools that place science at the heart of their curriculum and strive to provide children with a strong foundation in scientific knowledge, skills and curiosity.
The PSQM is a year-long professional development programme led by the University of Hertfordshire. It supports primary science subject leaders to evaluate and improve their school’s science provision and raise the profile of science across the school community. Over 5,500 Quality Marks have been awarded since the programme began, positively impacting more than a million children.

Alex Clark, Deputy Headteacher and Primary Phase Lead at Temple Learning Academy.
Helen Sizer, PSQM Director, added:
“The Primary Science Quality Mark recognises a whole school commitment to raising the profile and quality of science education, helping children recognise the value and relevance of science in their lives, both now and in the future.
Achievement of the Quality Mark reflects the development of effective science leadership, visionary curriculum design and excellent teaching practice which is positively impacting on children’s learning across the school. We have been impressed by the dedication of subject leaders, teachers, headteachers, pupils, parents, and governors alike. They all have reason to be incredibly proud.”
