Pupils from across Red Kite Learning Trust are celebrating an exceptional sporting achievement, with teams from two primary schools earning the opportunity to compete at Premier League venues.
In a remarkable moment for the Trust, both Austhorpe Primary School in Leeds and Saltergate Schools in Harrogate will be represented on the national stage, highlighting the strength of sport and pupil development across Red Kite schools.
Austhorpe Primary School’s boys’ team secured victory in the second round of the Primary Stars Football competition. They will now go on to represent Leeds United in the national stages of the tournament, which will be hosted at a Premier League stadium.
Jonathan Fawcett, Sports Coordinator at Austhorpe Primary School, said:
“We are incredibly proud of how our pupils represented both the school and the Trust, demonstrating positive attitudes and excellent sportsmanship throughout.”
Meanwhile, Saltergate Schools’ girls’ team were crowned regional champions in the ESFA Pokémon Primary Cup following a successful final at Liverpool Football Academy, where they secured a 3–1 victory. They will now progress to the national finals, set to take place at Stoke City FC’s ground.
Lisa Tremble, PE Lead at Saltergate Schools, said:
“The girls were outstanding, showing great skill, determination, teamwork and resilience to reach the final and secure a 3–1 victory. We are incredibly proud of their achievement and excited to see them represent Saltergate and Red Kite Learning Trust at the National Finals.”
To have two primary schools reach this level simultaneously is a significant achievement for the Trust. It reflects not only the pupils’ talent and commitment, but also the high-quality opportunities and support for sport across Red Kite Learning Trust.
Both teams have demonstrated outstanding teamwork, determination and sportsmanship, representing their schools and the Trust with pride. We look forward to following their progress as they take to the pitch on a national stage.
