Improving attendance is a key priority across our Trust. We work with our schools to foster a culture of high expectations, identify barriers to attendance and take early, proactive action to help pupils attend regularly. Through the use of attendance data, we identify patterns, monitor persistent absence and prioritise support for pupils who may be vulnerable or at risk of disengaging from education. Our approach focuses on prevention and early intervention, working with families and external partners to understand individual circumstances and put appropriate support in place. Where necessary, schools are supported to follow escalation pathways and legal processes.
Our Director of Attendance and Safeguarding provides strategic leadership across the Trust, working closely with headteachers and school leaders to set ambitious targets, monitor outcomes and drive continuous improvement. By sharing expertise, developing effective systems and supporting attendance teams, we aim to strengthen practice across all our schools and ensure that challenges are addressed consistently.
Alongside attendance, safeguarding remains central to everything we do. Our Director works with designated safeguarding leads and school safeguarding teams to strengthen practice, support high-quality training and ensure effective systems are in place to protect children. We also work closely with external partners, including social care, health services and early help teams, to coordinate support for children and families.
We recognise that attendance, safeguarding and wellbeing are closely connected. By working collaboratively with pupils, families, school colleagues and external agencies, we aim to remove barriers, respond to concerns and create safe, inclusive environments where every child can attend, participate and thrive.
